I've been a fan of My Chemical Romance since they released the song 'Welcome To The Black Parade' as a single during the end of 2006. But I only listened to them when they played the song on the radio... but then I heard they were releasing a new song as a single.
And that's when I really got hooked to "MCR"... when they released 'I Don't Love You' in April of 2007. Since I thought Welcome To The Black Parade was a good song, I instantly thought I might as well check out the new video of 'I Don't Love You' on Youtube and see what I think. About ten seconds into the song, I knew it was the best thing released in the 2000's. I fell in love with their music, basically.
The video was filmed in black and white and MCR lead singer, Gerard Way, had a haircut and dyed his hair back to black. The video was very sophisticated, romantic, and an in a world in which I wish I could live in. But the song is even better! Since the single wasn't released in the USA, I bought two different 7" singles of the song. One had 'Cancer (Live)' as a B-side and the other single had 'House Of Wolves (Live)' as a B-side. I never pass down an opportunity to listen to 'I Don't Love You'.
The lyrics to I Don't Love You, are so meaningful to me. I envy Gerard Way's lyrics to that song. Sometimes think about my life in terms with lyrics in that song, such as "Would you even turn to say, I don't love you, like I did, yesterday?"... I mean, it's the questioning of one's love for another. Gerard wasn't singing that he doesn't love someone, he was asking someone if they'd even admit that they don't love him like they used to. To me, it's a very sad and emotional song. And the music on the song, is so great too. The guitar intro, and the harmonies of vocals in background during the chorus, and just the melody itself is great. I even learned to play the damn song on the piano, it means that much to me.
It's MCR's first "love song" or "power ballad" and currently, I've heard, they are back in the recording studio recording another album. Hopefully they can fit in another ballad like that. I also hope they start releasing albums more often. Every two or three years, is way too long to wait for a studio album, in my opinion.
Don't be afraid to buy album 'The Black Parade' .... or the single to 'I Don't Love You' (on eBay). The album is NOT emo. The song isn't emo. It's emotional, yes, but not the suicidal/cut myself kind of music. Trust me, you'll enjoy the songs. Very Queen-like. Queen also happen to be Gerard's favorite band.
